Pediatric Orthodontics in Palo Alto, CA

Contrary to popular belief, orthodontics isn’t just about creating picture-perfect teeth. It’s about setting your child up for a lifetime of easier chewing, clearer speech, and healthier gums. When teeth are appropriately aligned, they’re easier to clean and less likely to cause jaw discomfort down the road.

At Little Bytes Pediatric Dentistry, we now offer comprehensive orthodontic care at both our Palo Alto and San Jose locations. Dr. Zachary Hollander, a board-certified orthodontist and Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, joins our team to provide the same warm, welcoming care your family has come to trust. Whether your child needs traditional metal braces, Invisalign, or another clear aligner system, we have the tools and training to guide them toward a confident, healthy smile.

Why Orthodontic Treatment Matters

Crooked or crowded teeth can lead to more than just self-consciousness. Misaligned teeth are harder to clean, enhancing the risk of cavities and gum disease. Poor alignment can also cause uneven wear on tooth enamel, jaw pain, and difficulty chewing or speaking. Addressing these issues early prevents more serious problems down the road.

Starting orthodontic treatment at the right time helps your child avoid unnecessary discomfort and reduces the need for more invasive procedures later. In fact, the American Association of Orthodontists advises that children see an orthodontist by age seven to catch potential issues while their jaw is still developing.

Treatment Options We Offer

Every child’s smile is different, and we tailor treatment to fit their needs. Dr. Hollander offers a range of orthodontic solutions at both our Palo Alto and San Jose locations.

There are many reasons children prematurely lose their baby teeth:

  • Traditional metal braces: These time-tested braces use metal brackets and wires to strategically move teeth into their proper positions. They’re durable, effective, and an excellent choice for correcting complex alignment issues. Modern braces are smaller and more comfortable than ever before.
  • Invisalign and clear aligners: For teens and older children who prefer a less noticeable option, clear aligners offer an attractive alternative. These removable trays straighten teeth without the look of traditional braces. Patients should wear their aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours per day, removing them only for meals and brushing. Clear aligners work best for mild to moderate alignment issues.

Dr. Hollander will evaluate your child’s needs during a consultation and recommend the best approach for their unique situation.

What to Expect During Treatment

Orthodontic treatment typically lasts between 12 and 24 months, depending on the complexity of your child’s case. Dr. Hollander will see your child every four to eight weeks to supervise their progress and make adjustments. These appointments are quick and straightforward.

During the first visit, Dr. Hollander will take X-rays, photographs, and digital impressions of your child’s teeth to create a personalized treatment plan. He’ll explain what to expect at each stage and answer any questions you have. We want you and your child to feel comfortable and informed every step of the way.

Most children adjust to braces or aligners within a few days. Any initial discomfort usually fades quickly. We provide detailed instructions on how to care for your braces or aligners, including which foods to avoid and how to keep your teeth clean during treatment.
